The arrival of Olympic Skateboarding has opened so many doors, both for pro skaters and the sponsors that outfit them. Among the latter of those two groups, Nike SB is leading the charge by introducing a new model ahead of the 2024 Paris Games; the Nike SB PS8.
The name of the shoe honors the late Sandy Bodecker, the godfather of Nike SB who passed away in 2018. While “SB” itself will always be synonymous with Bodecker’s legacy, the “PS8” name derives from the Nike icon’s Instagram handle; problemsolver8.
Fittingly, the shoe is said to solve eight distinct problems identified by skaters and the Nike Sport Research Lab team. Further context from the minds over in Beaverton should dive into the exact performance benefits of the PS8 in the near future, but skaters can most definitely expect a durable and comfortable wear from the new model.
First images show a Flyknit base, leather overlays, and cupped sole that’s a bit bulkier than usual for a skate shoe. From a distance you might confuse these for an Air Max 180; its overall shape and air-equipped sole give off a similar vibe to some extent. As with all shoes currently being previewed at Nike’s “On Air” expo in Paris, the PS8 marks its first public appearance with sparse blue and orange treatments atop a white base.
