The Nike Air Max 1 isn’t traditionally thought of as a winter shoe, but there’s nothing like a material overhaul to re-frame the Tinker Hatfield classic. Looking a couple of seasons ahead, Beaverton designers drop traditional textiles for an array of cold-weather hallmarks, comprising a more durable, weather-permitting take on the 1980s icon.
Teeing off a handful of notable design choices, the base is comprised of what appears to be padded ripstop, taking after down jackets and other traditional winter apparel and accessories. The quarter and forefoot overlay come crafted out of textured leather, swapping between shades of “Dark Smoke Grey,” while a hairy suede mudguard is matched on the upper eyestay. The tongue and heel branding quietly introduce “Flash Crimson” accents, complemented underfoot by an oversized Swoosh that spans the full length of the outsole, made visible through semi-translucent tread.
Pairs are currently expected to release Fall 2024 for $160; a reasonable $20 markup from the model’s standard MSRP given its non-conventional materials. Scroll through official images below and tap our Sneaker Release Dates page to preview other Air Max deliveries out of Beaverton.
