Perhaps more than any footwear brand out there, Salomon is closely aligned with the high fashion world. Their proximity to Maison Margiela does a lot of the heavy lifting in that regard but link-ups with luxury-adjacent names like Sandy Liang, Dover Street Market, and L’Art De L’Automobile only further the sportswear-meets-runway association. Aries is helping the French outdoors company dip into that well once again and simultaneously usher in a new partner, introducing a major revamp on the Salomon Snowclog.
The immediate draw is how the Italian label almost entirely ditches the “Clog” side of the equation. Though the spiked traction from the original silhouette remains, the one-piece slip-on construction is greatly reimagined, opting for a genuine sneaker shape instead. A combination of traditional leathers, suede, and mesh meets a sporty quick-lace system, drastically raising the model’s height in totality.
In addition to the compositional changes, Aries’ high fashion touch results in a departure from the monochromatic and two-tone fare you’ll see on inline Salomon Snowclog releases. The Italian brand brightens the profile of both pairs with sunset and Northern Lights-esque ombres at the quarter of either shoe. While those touches align well with the outdoorsy ethos of Salomon generally, in truth, the true inspiration behind the designs stems from the Japanese superhero series of the 1970s and 1980s, a suddenly in-vogue touchstone given the high-profile NIGO Air Force 3 collection.
The Aries Salomon collection releases on November 14th at 4 AM EST via either brand’s online stores and select retail locations. Retail is set at $160 USD for both the black and white colorways. Catch official images of either look included just ahead – upon arrival use the links embedded here (black and white) to grab your pairs.
