After first appearing as a collaborative centerpiece on Junya Watanabe’s Paris Fashion Week runway, the New Balance P400 is transitioning into its inaugural general release. Moving beyond the monochromatic runway aesthetic, the silhouette officially debuts in a sharp “Black/Inkwell” colorway.

The most striking feature of the P400 is its tight checkerboard upper, which provides a textured, almost armored appearance. The design remains grounded with solid black toe caps, while the side panels shift into a dynamic black-and-white weave that creates a sense of motion. Vibrant Inkwell blue accents provide a necessary pop of color, highlighting the “N” logo, lace stays and the stabilizing midsole element.

Familiar New Balance heritage is preserved through the tongue, which utilizes a white mesh base and grey reflective details. This traditional touch is softened by creamy off-white laces, grounding the shoe’s more aggressive angles. Built for performance, the sneaker features a high-performance Fresh Foam X midsole for maximum responsiveness and comfort. Look out for the silhouette to debut in mid-February.
