Anthony Edwards On The adidas AE 2: Nothing Less Than Legendary

Wrapping his first-ever “Believe That.” tour, NBA star Anthony Edwards journeyed to China for a multi-city campaign in partnership with adidas Basketball, showing his love for the sport’s expansive global community. Amidst this major milestone in Edward’s global rise, he expressed its significance in a conversation with Hypebeast, “It’s something I’ll never forget.”Making his way through Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing in the final week of August, the sports superstar hosted a series of events, including fan gatherings, youth-focused activities, and cultural moments, culminating in a visit to the Great Wall.  Edwards also appeared with collaborator Edison Chen of CLOT to introduce the CLOT x Anthony Edwards 1, and brought his “Ant Farm” — a new activation platform — to his Chinese fans with immersive basketball programming. In Shanghai, he gathered thousands of fans for a surprise unveiling of the much-anticipated adidas AE 2, the follow-up to his inaugural adidas 1 silhouette. From the coming NBA season to the sequel of his signature adidas sneaker, Edwards sets his gaze on the future with an all-in attitude and optimistic energy. “I want everything we do to be legendary,” he said regarding his growing adidas line. And as for his 2025-26 NBA season, he says the team will do everything they can to bring the championship to Minnesota — “Believe that,” he concluded. How are you enjoying your China tour?Man, it’s been incredible. The energy out here is unreal. Everywhere we go, the fans show so much love. I’ve been wanting to come out here, so to finally get to experience Chinese basketball culture and see their passion for the game. It’s something I’ll never forget. The adidas Anthony Edwards 1 was an undeniable hit. What made the shoe special to you?The Anthony Edwards 1 was my first signature shoe, so it will always be special to me. It was really special to get to bring it to life with adidas Basketball and the reaction to it was crazy. Seeing it everywhere and hearing everybody talk about it, I’ll never forget that feeling.Anticipation for the adidas Anthony Edwards 2 has been building for a while now. Did you feel any pressure to take things to an even higher level? To me, it’s motivation. The Anthony Edwards 1 set the tone, but the 2 was always about leveling up whether people were anticipating it or not. The goal is always to keep beating yourself year after year. And we did that.Is there anything about the adidas Anthony Edwards 1 that you’re looking to improve upon with the 2?With the 2, my goal was to keep the mix of style and performance. The shoe needs to do what I need it to do on the court, but it’s just as important that the shoe looks trim too.Can you tell us what we can expect from the adidas Anthony Edwards 2?Man, the 2s are next level. It’s lighter and more explosive and we’ve got some crazy colorways coming too. When creating the concept for the adidas Anthony Edwards 2, what did you start with?We started with performance first. The on-court feel has to be perfect. I need a shoe that moves the way I move. The adidas Basketball team built the design around that foundation, making sure that it performs at the highest level, but also still has a bold look and feels like the next evolution of the line. Before moving on to the 2, you’ve teamed up with Edison Chen’s CLOT for a fiery take on the 1. Aside from being the model’s first collaboration, what makes this pair pop?You know we had to end the first era with a bang, and when I saw what Edison had cooked up I was speechless. The details speak for themselves. Straight fire. The marketing behind your partnership with adidas has been one-of-a-kind. How much of your own personality and ideas go into the campaigns?I want everything we do to be legendary. I can’t thank them enough for allowing me to be who I am. From launching the 1 in Atlanta, to letting Nick be a part of the campaign, everything you see is all me. Believe that.Outside of your own sneaker line, what’s your favorite adidas sneaker to wear casually? When I’m off the court, I love to be comfy. Lowkey, you can always catch me in a pair of Adifom IIInfinity slides. When it comes to sneakers, I love the adidas Superstars. Those are timeless. What are you most excited about for the 2025-26 NBA season?Man, it’s all about chasing that championship. We will be doing everything we can to bring that championship to Minnesota too. Believe that.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by HYPEBEAST (@hypebeast)Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

adidas x BSTN Celebrate Oktoberfest with a Mediterranean Twist

Summary:adidas and BSTN have collaborated on an Oktoberfest sneaker pack. Two festive colourways – inspired by traditional lederhosen – are available. The collaboration releases September 13 exclusively at BSTN Munich and online.Munich’s Oktoberfest is just around the corner, and to celebrate, German sneaker boutique BSTN has teamed up with adidas on a limited-edition footwear collaboration featuring two unique colourways. But this two-part München sneaker release comes with a Mediterranean twist. In recent years, the growing popularity of the world-famous Volksfest among Italian tourists has become a lighthearted running joke among Munich locals. So much so, that the festival’s second weekend is now affectionately known as “Italian Weekend.”Leaning into this cross-cultural connection, adidas and BSTN have crafted a design that blends the spirit of Oktoberfest with a playful Italian flair. Each sneaker features ‘Salute’ (Italian for “cheers”) branding on the silhouette, along with “Brindiamo” (“let’s raise a glass”) boldly displayed on the collaboration’s custom crest – a warm nod to the festive atmosphere of family, community, and celebration that defines Oktoberfest.Still paying homage to traditional Bavarian attire however, the two colourways – “Dark Brown / Dark Green” and “Taupe / Sage Green” – echo the classic design elements of lederhosen ( the knee-length leather breeches typically worn at the festival). And, the subtle embroidery on each heel adds an extra layer of detail, drawing further inspiration from Wiesn culture. The adidas x BSTN München ‘Oktoberfest’ collection launches on September 13, available at the BSTN flagship store in Munich and online on the brands website.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

Introducing the Nike LeBron 23

There will never be another athlete like LeBron James: four NBA championships, four NBA Finals MVPs, four MVPs, 42,184 regular-season points. At 40 years old, it would make sense for him to retire, but the King defies expectations. His legendary run in the league, which includes being part of the first father-son duo to play together, is mirrored by his partnership with Nike. This year, LeBron will begin his 23rd season, which coincides with the 23rd edition of his signature shoe series, the Nike LeBron 23. This entry is significant for the duo, as “23” has been his jersey number for most of his career. Celebrating this, the LeBron 23 is one of Nike Basketball’s most ambitious campaigns ever.LeBron made it clear to the Nike team that he wanted his 23rd shoe to be the most special addition to his footwear legacy. To accomplish this, Nike immortalized 23 of LeBron’s legacy-defining moments through unique colorways. The Nike team began with over 50 concepts and, with the help of LeBron himself, refined the list to just 23. When prompted to review the ideas, LeBron dissected the stories that mattered to him. The team expected many of his selections. However, he surprised them with some ideas as well. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nike (@nike)Upon finalizing the list, the team created three distinct eras, starting with his tone-setting high school performance on ESPN in 2002 with St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, and stretching through his heroic playoff runs with the Cleveland Cavaliers. From there, “The Decision” marked the beginning of a new chapter in LeBron’s career, ultimately leading to the third era, his return to Cleveland, which brought the city its first championship.Kicking off this journey is the lead “Uncharted” colorway, which recounts LeBron’s achievement of becoming the first player to reach 40,000 points scored in the regular season. Its all-gold finish utilizes vapor deposition, which Nike had never done before. Meanwhile, the upper’s diamond pattern is a nod to the rarity of this achievement. Beyond its eye-catching composition, a 40,000-point graphic appears at the heel to further commemorate the milestone. The “Uncharted” pair is just one of 23 stories coming to life with the LeBron 23. These designs feature a graphic upper with details extending the storytelling, and the back of the shoe offers a nod to each theme. After analyzing a wear-test version of the LeBron 23 that King James wore over the summer, Nike officially shared its technical specifications. His crown logo serves as a cradle for the sneaker, asserting its importance and offering functionality. The dip at the forefoot offers flexibility, while the heightened midfoot provides stability. The heel backs this structure, adding a final layer of support.Within the shoe is a Nike Basketball first: a ZoomX drop-in. This creation brings maximum responsiveness underfoot while carried by Cushlon 3.0 foam. A full carbon fiber shank completes the sole’s interior, strengthening the shoe’s stability. On the outside, the traction pattern takes on the shape of the number 23, sporting a multi-directional traction pattern that enhances movement in all directions. The shoe may be the focal point of the purchase, but the Nike Basketball team considered every element involved. The purchase of the LeBron 23 includes several items. Storytelling continues through a booklet that recounts all 23 moments with an in-depth look at each. The graphics on the back of the shoe are also presented as keepsakes, taking the form of charms, jewelry, keychains, and tags. Rounding out the presentation is a special shoe box, which sees the crown shape make another appearance.”Throughout the year, these 23 moments will be celebrated in particular areas with particular activations at particular moments.”Nike crafted a storyline through sneakers and has woven it into an entire cohesive collection encompassing a wide range of apparel. 23 graphic tees complement the 23 sneaker colorways, with each one featuring the relevant date of the moment on the back. There are also premium renditions of jerseys from his high school hoops days to the present. These combine a modern fit with premium materials, featuring details like double-knit chenille and embossed suede at the jock tag. The LeBron Signature Collection completes the apparel offerings. This luxe lineup favors beautiful finishes and materials, like a puffer jacket with mesh overlays and zip-off sleeves. After providing this thorough breakdown of the next chapter in Nike and LeBron’s legacy, three key project team members spoke about the collection and its development. Included are Ross Klein, senior footwear design director at Nike Basketball; Wil Green, senior director of apparel design for Nike Basketball and the NBA; and Jarrett Man, senior director of Nike Basketball footwear. Were there any considerations from a lifestyle perspective when designing the LeBron 23?Ross Klein: Basketball is always a mix of performance and culture, or style. Whenever we’re creating a product, we consider how it will look on the court and off of it. This shoe is a performance beast, but elements like the crown, which serves as a cradle, still speak to its lineage of greatness. With the “Uncharted” colorway, the shoe is a statement. Everybody will know you’re wearing LeBrons and ready to take the crucial shots.Speaking of the “Uncharted” colorway, the upper will change for each pair. Could you expand on that element?RK: Alongside the thematic graphics is the selection of unique materials. These can range from woven or natural elements to ones we haven’t seen on shoes before. All of that is to accomplish our goal of expressing these stories. You mentioned a “fit for the king” tagline for the apparel collection. What role did LeBron play in determining the “fit for the king”?Wil Green: It’s a lot about how LeBron has positioned himself on and off the court: his style and choices. He also plays a significant role in selecting the materials that we use. Whenever we show LeBron something, he always considers how a texture will feel on your skin. On our end, it’s about pushing things into a modern space. This campaign has allowed us to push the boundaries of our apparel design by utilizing materials we’ve never used in this capacity.”Also, if somebody gets all 23 [shoes], you may see something a little different.”The LeBron 23 sports the first-ever ZoomX drop-in. Could you speak to the feedback you’ve received regarding this innovation?RK: We wear test constantly, especially when working with a product like this. We aim to meet the needs of the next generation of hoopers by emphasizing agility and responsiveness through multi-directional flow. We challenged ourselves to iterate upon our sole structure to accommodate this. Initially, we had a very thick ZoomX layer, which was too compressive for players who want quick elevation. We constantly tuned the thickness until we struck the right balance. Can you describe how fans will engage with each of the 23 moments as they are presented?Jarrett Man: One of the most exciting things is that we deliberately scripted this journey. While we laid things out chronologically, the consumer will follow along in a special way. Throughout the year, these 23 moments will be celebrated in particular areas with particular activations at particular moments. I don’t want to give it all away, but I’m sure fans will enjoy reliving these moments again.RK: Also, if somebody gets all 23, you may see something a little different.Wil, on the apparel side of things, this project offered a unique opportunity to work so closely with other teams. Did this process feel different to you? And how did you enjoy it?WG: This was definitely different. We started together and we finished together. This crew became a family with how we looked after and supported one another. I pushed the hardest I’ve ever pushed to deliver because I saw how invested everyone else was.As we built the stories, we evaluated the unique elements that celebrate each moment as a cohesive team. This journey was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, and an amazing process we all learned from. The Nike LeBron 23 “Uncharted” will initially launch in China on September 25. From there, it will see a global drop take place on October 3, with additional pairs arriving in the following months. View this post on Instagram A post shared by HYPEBEAST (@hypebeast)Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast

A First Look at the Victor Victor x Nike Air Max DN8 “NYC” and “Tokyo”

SummaryNike collaborates with Victor Victor on next Air Max DN8Two colorways – “NYC” and “Tokyo” – have been revealed, both with automotive references”NYC” and “Tokyo” release dates in September, with Hypedrive Cars & Kicks private event acting as a pre-release party for VIP invited guests onlyNike is set to drop its next big collaboration with the Air Max DN8, this time with Victor Victor. The Nike Air Max DN8 is seeing its next collaboration with music producer Steven Victor, in conjunction with his record label Victor Victor Worldwide. The label – which oversees artists such as Ski Mask the Slump God, NIGO, the late Pop Smoke and many others – has worked with Nike’s latest technical sneaker in two distinct colorways. Since Steven is an avid automotive enthusiast, both colorways evoke automotive culture and cull motorsport references across the colorways and the silhouette of the DN8.For the “NYC” colorway, an all black upper dominates the look, with multicolor accents coating the DN8’s sleek skin. The colors are a reference to automotive airfoil schematics, how air moves around specific parts of a car and the effects of it on the part. Beyond the colorful upper, the Victor Victor x Nike Air Max DN8 also features a similar rainbow effect assortment of dots on the bottom sole, while darkened Air Max bubbles create the midsole. Vibrant laces and an exclusive Victor Victor helmet keytag round out the NYC.An alternative “Tokyo” colorway complements the NYC, in a contrasting silver color scheme. The metallic sheen dominates the upper that’s tied with chrome and carbon fiber at the heel, giving a slight nod to automotive materials. Icy “VICTOR” soles are a subtle touch and nod back to Steven Victor, while subtle Victor Victor graphics are found within, at the insole as well as on the manufacturer’s sizing tag. Both pairs are set to release this later summer, with the NYC colorway dropping first on September 13, and the Tokyo pair to follow on September 15.Subsequently, an exclusive edition of Hypedrive’s Cars & Kicks event will see a pre-release of the Victor Victor x Nike Air Max DN8 “NYC”, with invited attendees getting first access to purchase the limited edition sneaker before its official release.
